June 6 and June 8 at 7:00 pm

On June 6th and 8th, you will be treated to an event featuring some very special performers. Since January 2013 Smiths Falls Community Theatre has partnered with Mills Community Support Corporation to create a show with members of our community that might not have the chance otherwise. What started out as a desire to fulfill a dream of one young woman to be in a play blossomed into the development of a show that allowed for others to also have the same opportunity. Six young adults came forward and the dream became an reality.

These actors have faced many challenges in their lives but all decided that in spite of that they wished to take on the additional challenge of performing in a play. This select group of actors will present the The Huntsman’s Wish, as well as a musical offering.
The Huntsman’s Wish is a short one-act fairy tale that tells the story of the consequences of bullying when magic can intercede. It centres around a young man named Erlich (Robbie Hull) who believes he is an orphan that has been raised by a poor old woman he calls “Sister” (Christy Jones). When there is no longer enough for them both to survive on, she sends him into the forest where he has meets some interesting characters such as Sprites (Meghan & Josie ), a talking Horse (MCS worker) and Dove (Michelle ). While there he learns some important lessons.

This special evening will be a fund-raiser for the Special Olympics and The Hub. Admission is by donation and there is no reserved seating for these performances.

The Station Theatre in Smiths Falls is a true venue for all performing arts. In the coming months, The Smiths Falls Community Theatre will be showcasing musicians that, although they may not be that well known to our audience, deserve to be heard. These performances will compliment the musical tribute shows that have been so successful over the past year.

The first performer, Patrick Lehman is an exceptional musician and he will be in concert at the Station Theatre stage May 25.

A little bit about Patrick. He performed at the Montreal International Jazz Festival’s 2006 Big Event — a Paul Simon Tribute Concert, sharing the stage with Elvis Costello, Daniel Lanois, Sam Roberts, Colin James, Bedouin Soundclash and Holly Cole. The show, attended by 150,000 people, was subsequently broadcast on Bravo, ArTV and CBC television. It was one the festival’s most successful outdoor concerts. He has also performed across the United States and Canada, including performances in the International FestiBlues, Tremblant Rhythm Festival, FunkFest and the CTV Television ‘Telethon of the Stars’.

Patrick also won the first place ‘Rising Star’ award at the International FestiBlues, performed at Canadian Music Week and was asked to produce music for fashion designer Elizabeth Kosich for her New York City Fashion Week 2012 runway show. For more info check out:

Cast includes 3 men and 6 women. Interested actors should call Lynda at 613-283-0300 to arrange a time.

This play is directed by Joan Sonnenburg and runs April 8 – 18

Here’s a synopsis:

n the 1850s young Catherine Sloper lives with her father, Dr. Austin Sloper. Catherine is shy, unsophisticated and plain-looking; her father blames her for the death of her mother, who died giving birth to her.

Morris Townsend courts her. Catherine believes him sincere, her father believes he’s after her inheritance. When the three confront each other, they agree that Austin will take his daughter to Europe for six months. He believes that either Morris or his daughter will give up, they don’t think so.

On their return, Dr. Sloper sees that nothing has changed, and threatens to disinherit her if she marries Morris. Catherine suggests to Morris that they elope immediately, she cannot stand to be in her father’s house another night; but she also mentions the threat of disinheritance. Morris leaves to get his things, but does not return, and Catherine is crushed. Three days later Dr Sloper realizes that he is mortally ill, and tries to reconcile with Catherine. She refuses.

Two years later Morris returns, and makes excuses about his jilting her. She seems to be swept away again, and tells him to go fetch his things so they can elope; but when he returns, she has the maid bolt the door against him, and turns out the lights.
